In fact, auto.com.my is an ideal platform for car enthusiasts to purchase or sell cars to the public. According to the website, it has over 15 million hits monthly. Hence, for those who would like to check out specific vehicles or dealers and sellers in their region, the portal is here to provide you solutions.
The main design of the portal resembles a blog. The home page displays latest automotive news and prominently shows forum of the day. When I first clicked in to the website, I wasn’t particularly impressed with the design as the boxes looked a bit scattered without appropriate listing. Hence, the design is not outstanding or eye-catching for first time visitors.
The main navigational links are placed on top of the page that helps user to search for their desired forum. However, as you scroll-down the web page, you’ll notice another navigational link that will lead you to other pages is placed on the bottom right. Sadly, such important feature – marketplace for car enthusiasts to search for information on cars and services available to the public is not the obvious feature to draw surfers to visit the webpage.
The loading time for the website is indeed satisfactory even though a number of images are available in most of the pages. The colour on top of the homepage blends in with the rest of the featured news published. Since upper half of the page is given to featured news, users have to strain their eyes to look out for other information. Much of the page is bombarded with previews of unnecessary featured news. As I suggest, reduce the space given to featured news and pop-in other features to ensure the homepage looks appealing.
Even though as you progress along the website, you can easily track down the features and tools offered to users, much of the tools are cramped in the homepage. It takes some time for one to notice the search button for marketplace and first-time visitors to register with the portal.
Overall, the content published is adequate and sufficient as users can practically track down the latest automotive news locally and internationally. As far as I have mentioned earlier that the navigational tools can be found everywhere in the page, all the links are functional. Of course, webmasters have included ‘search’ box at the bottom of the homepage to convenient users.
Since the portal already have some success as one of the most visited automotive portal in the country, webmasters can improve on the design layout to make it stands out from the rest of other similar websites. You can check out the portal at www.auto.com.my and be the judge!
